The User Interface has been redesigned for further ease of use
Properties Panel: this new organizing tool allows you to view and edit the properties of all the elements (text, images, layouts and variables) in a PrintShop Mail document at one glance by simply selecting the element
The Embed-PostScript feature has been extended. Next to embedding PostScript instructions (at printing time) in between records and at the start of the job, it now also facilitates embedding specific postscript instructions in between pages.
You can now add a style to border lines of text and image objects (square dots, dashed, etc).
Support for Font styles Superscript, Subscript and Strikethrough has bee added.
PrintShop Mail allows you to rotate text objects and (variable) images to any angle by simply dragging the mouse cursor.
Regional Settings can now be defined per variable object (Formatting Variables).
The new Copy Fitting feature give you the option to have PrintShop Mail automatically resize the used font in a text object, dependent upon the amount of text in the text object and the size of it's bounding box.
The new Snap Frame to Content feature automatically resizes the text or image object's bounding box, dependent on the amount of text or the dimensions of the image it contains for a record.
You can now have text overflow from one text object to another by linking two or more text objects together within the PrintShop Mail document. This allows for page overflow of text as well.
Support for Vertical Layout for Asian fonts as been added. (Windows XP and 2003 only)
With the new TEXT_FILE function in the Expression Builder you can now link variable (external) text files in .RTF or .TXT text format to your PrintShop Mail document.
The COUNTER function has been further simplified in use.
The Expression Builder offers several new functions for manipulating database content or Layout Conditioning:
FILE_EXIST: checks whether a resource, for example an image file, exist on your computer.
CONTAINS: searches for a given string in another given string.
PAGE_NR: allows for printing the page number. This function can also be called upon via the Menu (Insert>Page Numbers).
OBJECT_EMPTY: checks whether there is actual content (text or image) in the text or image object for a specific record (useful for Layout Conditions). This function can also be called upon via the Layout menu Skip if Object is Empty.
You can now specify a different Page Setup for each layout in your document. This allows you to mix different media types, page sizes and orientations, staple or bind a specific range of layouts and print your document "mixplex" (simplex and duplex printing within one set/record), provided that your printer supports these options.
Support for printing a specific number of copies per record based on Database content.
PrintShop Mail now supports both CMYK and RGB colorspace for text and image objects (border and background colors), provided that your printer supports these options. Please note that these options, although available, are currently in developmental stage where font colors are concerned.
Support for PPML and PPML/VDX output, has been extended to allow for reusable objects to be pre-cached on the printer/RIP in case you need to print the same job more than once, provided your printer/RIP supports this feature.

PrintShop Mail 5.x has been specifically designed to run in the native Mac OS X (v. 10.3 Panther).
PrintShop Mail makes use of the OS X color palette.
PrintShop Mail uses the OS X font table.
Support for multiple undo and redo actions.
PrintShop Mail documents are now saved in XML format.
Your HASP-USB hardware key can now be upgraded online.
Free rotation of objects is now supported.
Simultaneous resizing of multiple (rotated) objects is supported.
You can now drag & drop objects from the Finder into the PrintShop Mail document.
Place and use PDF files directly in PrintShop Mail without the need for third-party software.
PrintShop Mail documents made in previous PrintShop Mail version 4.3.x (on Mac OS 9.0 or lower) can be opened and saved
The COUNTER and CCOUNTER function have been integrated making "arguments" optional.
Options to specify the format of the DATE and the TODAY expression have been extended.
New functions have been added to the expression builder for manipulating database content:

CONTAINS (searches for a given string in another given string).
RECORDNUMBER (indicates the current record).
REPLACE (allowing you to replace any string for any other string)
